Bruce Mau

I worked at BMD in 1998-1999

I have learned so much from Bruce Mau, this could be a whole website on its own. I knew the work of Bruce Mau design, and how they collaborated with some of the most reknowned architects and artists worldwide, on projects across many disciplines. What I was to learn, by being close to Bruce on a daily basis was very surprising: good work is simply the product of good collaboration, and being a good collaborator requires equal part rigour, vision but most importantly kindness and passion. Bruce surrounds himself with people he enjoys working with - there is simply no other way. So yes, talent is a important part but it is hard to define, whereas an ability to be curious about others, to invest oneself in a project – this is something everyday can practice and succeed. I found this was true of everyone he worked with even superstars whose ego was incredibly large – Bruce made it about the work, and had the intelligence and kindness to build the most amazing projects.
